Mobiliário Indo-Português — Portugal e o Oriente (Portugal e Índia) (Prata Proof)

Sara Feio

India was already known to the Portuguese, and trade with that territory had long been coveted, but it was the discovery of the sea route to it by Vasco da Gama and his armada in May 1498 that definitively opened the doors to direct exchanges. More than six centuries of connections between Portugal and India have left many marks and much heritage in common, but perhaps the symbol that best sums up these encounters is the famous Indo-Portuguese furniture.

Sara Feio is one of the most interesting Portuguese illustrators of her generation. The coin alluding to Indo-Portuguese furniture is her first numismatic creation, and it shows how the Portuguese Mint is committed to promoting new talents.
