Longleaf spearmint (mentha longifolia) (Silver Proof)
After the four-leafed clover (Marsilea quadrifolia) and the Algarve alcar (Tuberaria major), this is the third coin in the "Threatened Plant Species" series, which aims to promote the knowledge and preservation of species of national flora currently in danger. Like the two that preceded it, the coin dedicated St. John´s horsemint was designed by the national and international award-winning illustrator Catarina Sobral.
Just like the previous ones, this coin has colour highlights on the silver version, but, in addition to those, it also has an aromatic component — it is the first Portuguese coin with scent, obtained from micro-capsules of mint fragrance. Included in the ink, they release the aroma when rubbed..
